Walks
The outstanding landscape in the park has attracted a number of ramblers over the years. While visitors flock to the beaches, like Golden Sands in the hot months in order to cool down, the shoulder months between October and April bring the landscape to life with the onset of the Autumn rains. The climate is mild and perfect for walks in the Park.
One of the most beautiful walks is down along Rdum Majjiesa. This area is covered by clay slopes, water courses and boulder scree, and features a number of rare plants. The more adventurous rambler may attempt to keep going around the clay slopes to Rdum id-Delli, which is no less stunning.
There is also a great walk along the Majjiesa Ridge, called Xagħra tal-Majjiesa. From here one could keep heading North in the direction of Għajn Żnuber Tower and on to Anchor Bay, which lies at the perimeter of the Park.
You can choose one of three starting points to a walk in the Park:
Elysium Visitor Centre, near Golden Sands. You can leave your car in the vicinity of the bay, or catch the 645 Bus and get off at Golden Sands, which is the last stop. The visitor Centre is run by The Gaia Foundation, one of the managing organisations of the Park. After getting any information you might need on the park or on other environmental features and services available on the island, you can head past the Radisson Golden Sands Hotel and walk towards Rdum Majjiesa.
Manikata. Park at Manikata car park across the road from the church, or take bus number ... And get off at the church. Head North and take a turn into the Park at the next road. You can then walk towards the coast in the direction of Majjiesa.
Anchor Bay. Park at the car park at Anchor Bay or take bus number ... Facing the sea, keep left (South West) and you will enter the Park immediately. Head up to Rdum id-Delli.
Sunset in the Park
The Park has some lovely spots to watch the sunset. The sun sets in the sea its colours light up the yellow stone features along the coast. Certainly an occasion not to be missed.
