The Government passed on the management of
the Park Majjistral - a park of nature and
history under the management of 3
non-governmental organizations, being Din L-Art
Ħelwa, Nature Trust, and Fondazzjoni Gaia.
The Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi said that
it was a very big satisfaction that he was going
to close the present legislature with an
environmental initiative that created space
which can be benefited from by the entire
family.
He also said that after the setting up of the
administrative board of the park, between
Government and NGOs, the Government reached a
decision with which he is managing a large area
of land, more than 5 times the size of Valletta,
so that families may benefit.
Lawrence Gonzi said that when he became Prime
Minister, he promised that he was going to base
all his work on employment, education and the
environment, and with great satisfaction, he
shall end legislation have covered such facts.
George Pullicino, the Minister for Rural
Affairs and the Environment, stated that in the
Governments project, he joined non-governmental
organizations in order for to improve the
place/organization. He said that in these last
few weeks, NGO's made a public consultation with
the people who have already started using these
new limits with the intention of formulating a
plan for managing the site.
Furthermore, the site was also cleaned and
applications for the Park to receive €3 million
in structural funds were made in order for
restoration and building of rubble walls. This
was so in order for the site to be honored as a
historical place and for the areas that are
important for biodiversity to be improved.
